Brockton, Massachusetts        Public Hearing School Budget 2023                                                May 24, 2022

 

A Public Hearing on the School Budget 2023 was held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.

 

Present:  Ms. Asack, Vice-Chair; Ms. Ehlers, Ms. Rivas Mendes,

Mr. Rodrigues, Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Sullivan

                                         

Absent:   Mr. Homer 

                                         

Also Present:  Superintendent Thomas, Executive Team members

                                         

NOTE:   These minutes contain a summary of the meeting and list items that were under discussion.

 

The Public Hearing on School Budget 2023 was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by Mayor Sullivan, Chair, followed by a salute to the flag.

 

Mayor Sullivan asked for a moment of silence regarding the recent tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas where 14 children and 1 teacher’s lives were taken.  Keep them in our thoughts and prayers and their surviving loved ones.  May they rest in peace.

 

Mayor Sullivan read the following information for the record. 

“Good evening, and welcome to the Brockton School Committee Public Hearing FY2023 School Budget Meeting.  This meeting will be held and will be accessible to the public via Brockton Community Access, Brockton Public Schools website, YouTube and Comcast channel 98 and / 1071HD Version.

 

The public can access this meeting via this link: www.youtube.com/TheBrocktonChannels

 

1.      In accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 71, Section 38N, the hearing is now open for members of the public to discuss the proposed FY2023 School Committee Recommended Brockton Public Schools Budget. 

 

2.      The role of the School Committee is to listen to comments and concerns.  Members of the School Committee will not respond to any statements or questions during the course of the hearing.  In consideration of all speakers, I ask that each individual complete their remarks within three (3) minutes.”

 

3.      The meeting is closed after the Hearing of Visitors.  NO VOTE IS TAKEN AT THE PUBLIC HEARING.  Voting it is taken after a report is presented at the School Committee meeting that follows.

 

4.      The floor is open for discussion.

 

Mayor Sullivan, Chair, took a roll call vote to establish a quorum.

 

Ms. Sullivan – Yes

Mr. Homer – Absent

Ms. Ehlers – Yes

Ms. Rivas Mendes – Yes

Mr. Rodrigues – Yes

Ms. Asack, Vice-Chair – Yes

Mr. Sullivan – Yes

Mayor Sullivan, Chair – Yes

 

 

Mayor Sullivan opened the meeting to members of the public who wished to speak on the matter of the Public Hearing FY2023 School Budget. There were no visitors.

 

Mayor Sullivan asked if there were any School Committee members that would like to speak on the matter of the budget.  There were no comments or discussion.

                                         

Mayor Sullivan asked for a motion to adjourn the Public Budget Hearing FY2023.

 

A motion was made by Mr. Sullivan.  Seconded by Mr. Rodrigues.

 

Mayor Sullivan took a roll call to adjourn.

Ms. Rivas Mendes – Yes

Mr. Rodrigues – Yes

Ms. Asack, Vice-Chair – Yes
