Kevin Rooney Named Next Principal of the Davis K-8 School

BROCKTON- Brockton Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Kevin Rooney as the new Principal of the Davis K-8 School, effective this summer.

Rooney brings a strong familiarity with and understanding of the Davis community, where he served as Interim Assistant Principal for the second half of the 2022-23 school year. Since his time at the Davis, Rooney has served as an assistant principal at Brockton High School for the past two academic years, playing a key role in driving student achievement and strengthening school culture.

During his time at Brockton High School, Mr. Rooney led a schoolwide climate and culture initiative that produced measurable improvements in student engagement and academic proficiency. He also spearheaded data-driven efforts focused on increasing attendance and improving behavioral and academic outcomes while fostering meaningful relationships with both students and staff.

Rooney, a 2004 graduate of Brockton High, began his career in Brockton Public Schools as a substitute teacher in 2010-2011. He joined the district full time in 2013 as a physical education teacher, later becoming a floor teacher before moving into school leadership.

“While leaving Brockton High School is bittersweet, I am eager to return to the Davis and continue building upon the foundation I enjoyed developing during my initial time there,” Rooney said. “I look forward to rejoining the Davis community and getting to know and work with the students, staff and school community as a whole.

"We are excited to welcome Kevin back to the Davis, where he’s already had such a lasting impact in a relatively short time on the team," said Superintendent Priya Tahiliani. "His dedication to student success, collaborative leadership style, and deep roots in Brockton make him an exceptional choice to lead the Davis community into the future, and I look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes."

“The Davis community is a strong, engaged and vibrant one that will welcome Mr. Rooney back with open arms,” said outgoing Davis Principal Darlene Campbell, who is retiring this summer after 30 years in BPS, including 23 at the Davis. “He was a beloved member of our team during his initial tenure at the Davis and he is the right person for the job of leading a school that has built an extraordinary culture in support of our students.”

Rooney holds a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University and a master’s degree from Endicott College. He will assume his new role in August ahead of the 2025–2026 school year.
