Safety Tips for Extreme Cold

With extreme cold in the forecast, and with more than a month left before the end of winter, Brockton Public Schools would like to offer students and families some tips for staying warm.

The National Weather Service advises dressing in the following items during extreme cold, which Brockton is expected to experience in the coming days with windchills as low as -10 degrees:

  • 3+ layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing, including one insulating layer
  • An outer layer that repels wind
  • A warm hat
  • Mittens that are snug at the wrist, or gloves.
  • A scarf or other warm material that covers the mouth and nose while outdoors
  • Waterproof boots and thick socks

While many students walk to school, time outdoors should be limited as much as possible on days when it is very cold.
