Due to an ongoing water main issue, the Downey School will be closed today, May 1, 2026.
Students who have been safely relocated to East Middle School. Students who attend Brockton Day Nursery in the morning were safely returned there at the start of the school day.
If you are able to pick up your child at the East Middle School auditorium entrance prior to 12 p.m., please do so.
For students who remain at East Middle School after that time, we will follow our early release day schedule and will dismiss students at 12:15 p.m.

Students who typically walk will be transported via BPS bus back to Downey and dismissed from there to walk home.

Bus riders will be dismissed directly from East Middle School and transported home on their regular routes.
Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of today’s cancellation. We recognize how challenging it is to adjust plans on short notice, and we truly appreciate your patience, flexibility and partnership in helping us address this unexpected situation. Our top priority, as always, has been ensuring that students are safe.
Please note, there will be no extended day services at the Downey this afternoon.
