Brockton Education Foundation

Brockton Educational Foundation, Inc.

The Brockton Educational Foundation (BEF) is a non-profit, community-based organization created in 2000 by community members and school district leadership. Its mission is to support the Brockton Public Schools by enhancing the learning process for all students. Since its inception, the BEF has grown steadily and now has a substantial asset base and a successful track record of fund management. The BEF oversees several initiatives that offer significant value to the Brockton Public Schools and its students. The first is its "Principal for a Day®" program, an annual event that brings significant business and community leaders into the school system. Guests spend a day in our schools, shadowing the school principals on a one-on-one basis, gaining a deep insight into the workings of our schools and the rewards and challenges of public education. At the end of the day, the guests gather as a group to share their observations and insights.

The Foundation also launched and maintains the "BPS Innovators" program, an internal grant program for Brockton Public School teachers. BPS Innovators offers our best and brightest teachers funding to develop and implement creative new curricula. The grants range from $500 to $1,000. Each year, the BEF funds 10 new programs, all of which enrich the learning experience for students.

The Brockton Educational Association serves as the point of contact for many businesses and private citizens who wish to donate to our schools. Benefactors can support our students and schools through The Five Pillars of Excellence program, which allows donors to allocate funding for specific programmatic areas – academics, arts, athletics, civics and pathways – or to give to the BEF without restriction.

The BEF also serves as the conduit for managing funds for school-based Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs). The BEF is also proud to assist the Rocky Marciano Statue Committee with its efforts to raise funds for the erection of a statue to the late boxing great on the grounds of Brockton High School.

The Foundation welcomes community participation. Supporters are invited to offer resources, financial or in kind. Tax deductible donations to the Foundation are welcome. Questions or suggestions for the Foundation should be forwarded to Deputy Superintendent Michael P. Thomas.
