Frequently Asked Questions for the 2021-2022 School Year

When is the first day of school?

The first day of school is September 2 for grades 1 through 12. George School kindergartners start on September 7. All other preK and kindergarten students start on September 13.

There is no school on Friday, September 3, or Monday, September 6, due to Labor Day Weekend.

What are my child's school hours?

All of the school hours are listed on the Our Schools section of bpsma.org.

Will my child be required to wear a mask?

A decision regarding mask requirements will be made by School Committee vote at their next meeting. The vote will be conducted following an extensive review of the current health metrics of our city. We will update you as soon as possible via phone call and text message.

I want to keep my child home. What are my options?

The Brockton Public Schools has launched a virtual learning academy open to students in grades K-12. To learn more or to enroll, please click here.

In accordance with regulations from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, all other students will be in the classroom full-time this year.

When will bus assignments be released?

Bus routes are now available here.

Will there be orientation for K, grade 6 and grade 9?

Information regarding orientation will be distributed at the school level. We send updates via phone call and text message. If you recently changed your phone number, please contact the Parent Information Center to update your contact information as soon as possible.

Will lunch be provided each school day as in past years?

Yes. Students will receive one free lunch as in previous years. To learn more about our Food Services Department, please click here.

What supplies will my child need?

We seek to provide students with most of the necessary supplies. Any additional supplies will be communicated to your child by their teacher(s) during the first week of school. If the School Committee votes to require face masks due to local positivity rates, we will notify you.

Will Extended Day be offered?

Will my child be assigned a laptop to use this year?

Yes. Each student will be assigned a laptop to use in the classroom and, on occasion, at home. Parents/guardians will be required to complete a laptop agreement form as part of the packet of electronic forms distributed on the first day of school. Further information about the electronic forms will be disseminated on September 2.
