Reopening Update: January 21, 2021

Dear BPS Families,

During their Policy Subcommittee meeting Tuesday night, the School Committee voted to push back our target start date for hybrid learning to February 23. In sticking with our previous phase-in approach, a small cohort of students who receive Special Education services would return on February 23. The School Committee will vote on a new target date for phasing in all other students during their meeting next week.

The School Committee will continue to consult Dr. Richard Herman and the Brockton Board of Health when making decisions about how to safely bring students back to the classroom. We will notify you if any further changes need to be made to our target dates.

We understand that some families might feel frustrated by the need to further push back our target dates. However, the infection rate is not headed in the right direction and we need to see improvement over the next few weeks in order to support a return to the classroom.

The district will continue to work hard over the next several weeks to ensure that your children have a smooth transition back to the classroom. We thank you for your patience as we work to bring our students back in the safest way possible.

Thank you,

Superintendent Thomas
