To Whom It May Concern:

The Brockton Public Schools' application for free meals under the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Community Eligibility Plan (CEP) was approved. The approval of the CEP is based on Brockton's Direct Certified student rate and a federal multiplier factor which provides the district with the reimbursement necessary to supply the students with a free lunch. This means that over 17,000 students in the school district will receive a daily free lunch at school for the next four years.

In order for the Brockton Public Schools to continue with this effort, it is imperative to target as many parents and families who are or may be eligible to receive state assistance such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infant and Children (WIC), Mass Health, and Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC), Housing, etc.

My role as the Community Outreach Specialist is twofold: To target as many parents and families who meet these requirements and to assist families who may need guidance on how to apply. In order to capture pertinent data and to support a continued effort of free lunch for all our students, a Parent Outreach Survey has been developed and it is attached. Any and all information collected through this parent survey will remain confidential.

I welcome opportunity to meet with you to further discuss. Please feel free to contact me at (508) 208-5518 or via email should you have any questions.

I thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Janice Johnson-Plumer,
Community Outreach Specialist
