Chart #1: Brockton Public Schools Residency Policy
All applicants must submit at least one document from each of the following columns:

  • Copy of deed AND record of most recent mortgage payment
  • Copy of lease AND record of most recent rent payment
  • Notarized BPS address affidavit (requires additional documentation)
  • Section 8 agreement
A utility bill or work order date within past 60 days, including:
  • Gas Bill
  • Oil Bill
  • Electric Bill
  • Home Telephone Bill (not cellphone bill)
  • Cable Bill
  • Water Bill
  • Valid driver's license
  • Current vehicle registration
  • Valid Massachusetts photo identification
  • Valid passport, dated within the past year
  • W-2 form
  • Excise (vehicle) tax bill
  • Property tax bill, dated within the past 60 days
  • Letter from approved government agency
  • Payroll stub
  • Bank or credit card statement

Legal guardianship requires additional documentation from a court or agency.
The BPS residency policy does not apply to homeless students.

Who May Register?

  • Brockton resident children
  • All new students entering Brockton Public Schools

What Will you Need to Register?

  • Official birth certificate
  • Three documents that prove Brockton residency (see Chart #1)
  • Up-to-date immunizations record (see Chart #2)
  • Recent physical exam from doctor
  • Court documentation if your child lives with a legal guardian
  • Important names, addresses, and telephone numbers (doctors, hospital, emergency contact people, childcare providers)
  • Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.)

Assignment is based on the following criteria:

  1. Complete and Timely Registration
  2. Seat Availability
  3. Sibling Preference
  4. Proximity to School
  5. Racial Fairness Guidelines

Pre-Registration

Go to the Brockton Public Schools Registration Form to pre-register your child.


Walk-ins

Registration walk-ins are welcome during office hours. Walk-ins are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Last registration is taken half-hour before closing time.


Transfers

In-district transfer requests for students whose parents wish to change school are accepted from June 3 - July 31, 2019 and in the order in which they are received.


Kindergarten

No Kindergarten registrations will be done from August 19 - September 6, 2019. Kindergarten registrations will resume on Monday, September 9, 2019.


Deadlines

The last day to register students entering grades 1-12, to start on the first day of school, is August 22, 2019.
