Dear BPS families,
As previously promised, I wanted to share an update with you regarding the reopening of our schools in a hybrid learning format. Last night, the School Committee voted to push back the return of a small cohort of students who receive Special Education services to February 2. That means we would begin to slowly phase in each grade level beginning February 9. As a reminder, these are target dates and they are subject to change.
During Tuesday’s School Committee meeting, Dr. Richard Herman presented data which showed a significant increase in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving and the start of a second spike following the winter holidays. Based on this presentation, the School Committee felt that the state of public health in Brockton would not allow for an earlier return. We will continue to closely follow the metrics and notify you if further changes must be made.
As your Superintendent, I remain committed to keeping you up to date as we make important decisions about our return to the classroom. You can expect a detailed plan from my office in the coming days which will include an explanation of the safety measures that will be enforced at each school. The best thing you can do to support our efforts in the meantime is to incorporate safe behaviors in your child’s daily routine.
