SCHOOL COMMITTEE ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING - BDA

For the purpose of organizing, the School Committee, at its first regular meeting following the District’s annual elections, will elect from its membership a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and a Secretary, all of whom will hold their respective offices for a term of one year or until a successor is elected.

In the event the Chair and Vice-Chair are no longer members of the School Committee, the senior member (years served) will act as the Chair Pro-Tem.

A majority of the members of the School Committee will constitute a quorum. The election will proceed as follows:

The Officers of the Committee shall consist of a Chair (the Mayor), a Vice-Chair to be elected, and a Secretary (the Superintendent).

Nominations for the office of Vice Chair will be made from the floor. The Vice Chair will be elected by a majority roll-call vote of the members present and voting. If no nominee receives a majority vote, the election will be declared null and void and nominations will be reopened. The Officers of the Committee shall consist of a chair, (Mayor) a Vice-Chair to be elected, and a Secretary (Superintendent).

The Chair shall preside at all meetings of the Committee.

In the absence of the Chair, the Vice-Chair shall preside.

The Committee shall serve as a Committee of the whole to consider all school committee matters for final action.

Unless otherwise voted, the first named member of any Committee shall act as chair of such committee and shall call his/her committee together at such times as is necessary.

Committees of the School Committee shall handle such matters and exercise such powers as are delegated to them by the School Committee, and may recommend new policies for consideration by the School Committee.

Any vacancy among the officers occurring between organizational meetings will be filled by a member elected by the School Committee. The election will be conducted as described above.

Following election of officers at its organizational meeting, the School Committee may proceed into such regular or special business as scheduled on the agenda.
