PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS - GCIAA
The Professional Development Plan of the Brockton Public Schools provides a wide variety of opportunities for professional growth that will:
- promote excellence in teaching and learning in all areas of the curriculum
- provide access for all students to challenging, engaging educational experiences that prepare them for the future
- create a learning environment that reflects understanding, acceptance and appreciation of all cultures and learning styles
- enhance an individual’s ability to perform as an educator
- reflect the Common Core of Learning and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
High quality professional development shall include:
- integration of the Common Core of Learning
- opportunities for reflection and processing
- collegiality and collaboration across and within professional roles and responsibilities
- discipline-specific and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that reflect high expectations for all students
- incorporation of research-based teaching and learning strategies
- participant involvement in the design, implementation and evaluation of professional development programs and activities
- encouragement of and support for experimentation and risk taking
- follow-up that focuses on the application of professional development to the improvement of student learning
- strategies for reaching out to and involving families and the community
- support of School Improvement Plans.
